Directions for Use
Natural psyllium for all classes of horses. Recommended to support removal of sand from the ventral colon.
Provide to mature horses (1,000 lbs) at the rate of four (4) to six (6) ounces per day for a period of seven (7) consecutive days (one week) out of each month. Continue the "one week on--three weeks off" cycle as needed or as directed by your local, attending veterinarian. Usage rate may be adjusted proportionately, based on weight, for larger horses/draft breeds or smaller breeds, yearlings and ponies.
The enclosed ½ cup scoop will hold approximately two (2) ounces
Always make certain that horses have unrestricted access to clean, fresh water when using Sand Trap+ DFM. Do not provide Sand Trap +DFM to a horse with a reduced water intake. Please consult your attending veterinarian prior to use.
HorseTech has selected a very high-purity source of psyllium husk at 95% purity. The in-house trials that we have conducted indicated that the water absorption capacity, or swell volume, of the psyllium that we have selected to be approximately 40+ milliliters per gram of material with a purity rating of 95%.
In-house trials on competitors’ products indicated that when placed in water, pelleted products did not break down and absorb fluid readily—some, even after 24 hours in water. The tighter the pellet, the more this tended to be true. “Crumbled” products fared better, but they neither swelled as quickly, nor absorbed as much water per gram as the higher quality non-pelleted products.
For this reason, Sand Trap is not pelleted. Rather, it is a free-flowing natural form of psyllium husk that swells and gels easily and rapidly for excellent results.
We added a small amount of our food-grade flaxseed. Lab trials indicated that the addition of a small amount of flax resulted in a material with greater “grabbing” and “holding” capacity. If you mix Sand Trap + DFM with water and allow it to gel, you will be able to demonstrate this by dipping a stirring stick into the material. When you remove the stick you will be able to see how the material clings, and you will note the “slime” that is known to form when flax is fed. If you will dip a stirring stick into a plain psyllium product, you will note that the stick tends to “pop” free and there is less, if any, sticky “slime” or “goo”.
Direct Fed Microbial (DFM) Package:
Sand Trap + DFM includes a complete direct-fed microbial package similar to that provided by our standard probiotic product, Pro-Lactic DFM. To the best of our knowledge, Sand Trap + DFM is the only psyllium product on the market, that includes such a package.
